Therapeutic Immersive Virtual Reality System for Older People
Developed by the TRC-DMH Project Team led by Professor Rick Kwan, the therapeutic immersive virtual reality system (TI-VR) is a first-of-its-kind Cantonese-based VR programme for older adults living in long-term care facilities. The programme includes three categories of VR scenarios, including nature, outdoor tourism and reminiscence.

The TI-VR system supports a multi-player mode for up to eight participants, allowing older adults to see and interact with one another within the virtual environment. Additionally, centre staff or family members can share in the user’s experience via an iPad, fostering greater connection and involvement.

Digital Buddy: Digital Inclusion for the Elderly
Tung Wah College (TWC) received a grant of about HK$2 million under Phase 1 of the Mental Health Initiatives Funding Scheme coordinated by the Advisory Committee on Mental Health to fund a two-year “Digital Buddy: Digital Inclusion for the Elderly” Project. Through the establishment of an e-learning platform, the Project provides older people with 73 barrier-free videos on digital technology applications and mental health exercises, as well as a daily mood tracker to promote mental health awareness.

Positive Technology International Conference 2023
TWC held the Positive Technology International Conference 2023 (PT 2023) on 27-30 June 2023. The keynote lectures and workshops contain useful resources about digital mental health or the use of emerging technologies in mental health promotion and prevention

Proceedings of Positive Technology International Conference 2023 (PT 2023)
The rapid enhancement of digital and communication technologies over the last decade has been transforming well-being research and positive psychology practice. This trend initiates an emerging research area known as positive technology (Gaggioli et al., 2019). Positive technology (PT) is defined as “a scientific approach to the use of technology to transform and optimize individuals’ quality of personal experience with a focus on promoting wellness and cultivating strengths and resilience in individuals, families, and organizations, and in the community at large” (Botella et al., 2012: p. 78).
